The Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA) is hosting a two-day hackathon that will bring together experts in diplomacy, sustainability, and technology to collaborate on a challenge related to climate change in tandem with UAE’s commitment to achieving its growth objectives and principles for the next 50 years.

This Hackathon is a unique experience hosted by the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA) in collaboration with BOLT.

This two-day hackathon is designed for curious minds, innovative spirits, and futuristic individuals from around the United Arab Emirates who want to be part of a collaborative effort to tackle climate change challenges.

The Challenges

Developing software solutions to monitor greenhouse gas emissions

Problem statement:

How might we leverage satellite data, sensors, and other innovative technologies to effectively monitor emissions from diverse sectors, such as transportation, agriculture, and industry, and facilitate knowledge sharing for climate change adaptation and mitigation in the region?

Creating software solutions to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency

Problem statement:

How might we create software tools that can accurately assess the viability of renewable energy sources in the region, and promote sustainable finance and trade practices enabling businesses to effectively reduce their carbon footprint and minimize their environmental impact?

Building software solutions to promote a culture of sustainability

Problem statement:

How might we develop a software solution that fosters a culture of sustainability and healthy living, and encourages individuals and communities in the region to embrace eco-friendly and low-carbon lifestyles, including tools that promote sustainable consumption and waste reduction practices?

FAQs

Am I eligible to participate?

The hackathon is open to anyone between the ages of 18-35. Members of a team may join online on the day of the hackathon as long as 70% of their team members are physically on campus on the two days of the hackathon. If you are outside the UAE and would like to participate, Anwar Gergash Diplomatic Academy will not cover any costs for commuting or traveling.

Can I pitch my existing business?

Yes, all ideas that fit the challenges are welcome!

Can I join with my team?

Yes, but each member must register individually and mention they are part of the team.

Do I have to participate in two days?

Apart from Organizers, selected Coaches, Speakers, and press, everyone who attends the event is expected to participate all two days. This is important to minimize distractions/disruptions for working teams.

How do I prepare for the hackathon?

Do some research. Market research and background information will give you a better understanding of the problem you’re trying to solve.
